Teaching with Writing
A central mission of the Writing Center is to promote teaching with writing across campus and support faculty using writing in their courses. We see this both as a way to facilitate and consolidate student learning and as a way to provide students with as many opportunities as possible to build their writing skills in different genres and platforms and for different purposes and audiences.
To request an individual consultation for feedback on assignment and course materials, email us at writing-center@uiowa.edu.
The Writing Across Campus newsletter is a collection of feature articles and interviews about teaching with writing at the University of Iowa that aims to celebrate these efforts and inspire others.
The Institute for Teaching with Writing is a biannual series of faculty workshops designed to support faculty in all disciplines as they build more writing into their courses. Workshop topics include assignment design, scaffolding student writing, providing feedback on student writing and using multimodal assignments. Workshops are designed and taught by members of the Teaching with Writing Obermann Working Group.
The Teaching with Writing Obermann Working Group is an interdisciplinary group that meets once a month to talk and learn about teaching with writing through reading and research and by consulting with experts from other universities. If you're interested in joining us, please email Deirdre Egan or Carol Severino.
This collection of instructor resources lists the many different kinds of support available at the University of Iowa for instructors who want to incorporate more writing into their courses.
