Dana Alston
Graduate Student
Biography
I am a PhD candidate in the Department of Cinematic Arts, where I teach classes about film. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area but have gone to school all over (Oregon, Massachusetts, and now Iowa), and at each stop, I've enjoyed working with people to improve their confidence as writers. Writing can be a deeply personal activity, and I've found that getting to know my students as people is critical. That process is central to the Writing Center at the University of Iowa, and it is one of the many reasons I've enjoyed working here. When I'm not on campus, you can find me cooking, watching films, and working on my dissertation.
